buy parts here & there , look for the good sales thats how I start. Also alot easier to hide a true cost of a pc that way ;)

Indeed, it also helps if you can just upgrade a few parts at a time, rather than buying everything all at once. The stuff in my current build is anywhere from 10 yrs old (my trustly old WiFi-G PCI card) to less than a year old... things like hard drives (especially for storage), DVD drives and assorted expansion cards can be reused over and over again, cutting down on the cost of upgrades.

My current machine has 8gb of RAM and a 3.2GHz PhenomII X2 processor, built on an ASUS M4N72-E motherboard. Graphics card is much more reasonably priced than x420xFishys, being a single GeForce 9600GT, but it manages near-max settings on almost all the games I have played at reasonable framerates (20FPS and up)... plus it's driving two 24" monitors all by itself. It's a busy little card, but it gets the job done!

Also, it's worth pointing out that you should try to avoid the 'more cores = good' mind set. A lot of applications and games are still doing the bulk of their processing in one or a couple of threads, so a 4, 6 or 8-core 2.6GHz processor would actually perform a lot worse than a dual core 3.2GHz processor when running those.

Ya see I've just never built a computer...So I just buy it all at once :D I'd definitely like to build one though. I'd like to say most game won't even use 4 cores will they? I just see i7 blowing everything else away. But I do some hardcore video editing with premiere so 6 cores would be nice i'd imagine :D
