Heyo there are a lot of cool animate avatars out there and a lot of people like to use them one of them is me the only problem is most of them are between 100kb to 300kb to 500kb only a few including the one i use and under 100kb so i was wondering if the webmaster (a.k.a. danpaul) or whoever is in-charge of that kinda stuff could maybe make the most at least like 300kb so yeah. I made a poll if you agree or disagree.
Thanks

Re: Avatar File Size Enlargement
The reason for the file size restriction is to make sure no individual page on a topic because too large to load. If 10 different users with 500kb avatars post on page one of a topic that's 5mb worth of avatars for you to download... not nice if you happen to be on a low speed connection or have a usage cap.
If there is enough support for this I may raise the limit slightly, but it won't be to 500kb... I have 1650x1050 jpg images that are only 150kb in size, so there's no way you can possibly need over 3x that amount for an avatar.

SWF files are a major security problem for any bulletin board's users (because those who are maliciously-inclined can get it to download and/or execute malicious code).BassAce wrote:hes taliking bout a gif or a swf..
Just figured I'd mention it.
But the primary point danpaul was making is larger files = longer download, and when you have users who don't have a high-speed broadband connection, that gets to be a problem.
Hence the primary reason for the forum banner being remade by yours truly to cache the banner images, rather than loading a 300kb file on EVERY page load (20kb + images/video now).
