To report or not report...

I'm keeping this confidential so that I don't get busted...but here's my story. Intelligent responses only!

I started a job a little while back that was going well until I stopped getting shifts. I know why, and it's not because I did anything wrong. Anyway, the owner of the place is a drug addict and will find ways around paying people. Today I argued with him again because I was supposed to work tonight (it's going to be a very busy night at the place...very lucrative...) and he told me to start asking the manager for shifts and not him. He KNOWS the manager doesn't like me.

This guy pays his employees "under the table"...in other words...by cash, no tax forms or payroll. This is largely illegal. So I thought to myself this morning...if he's so fed up with me, why doesn't he fire me? He never seems to fire anyone...he just forces them to quit.

Then I realized...since I'm not on a payroll with no W-9...I'm not technically an employee. If he "fired" me...and I started a lawsuit, he'd be f*cked because his illegal operations would be uncovered. He knows I'm tough.

But then I realized that that still means I'm not getting shifts.
So....I'm considering reporting him for tax evasion. I can do it anonymously, too.
Before I do it, I'm trying to see if he's getting around legal loopholes by paying people in cash...but I still can't find anything legal about it.
If I don't report him, this guy gets away with ripping people off...and the government. This is a legal form of revenge...and I'm debating whether to go with it or not...

Be the mature one. Report the bastard, hell don't even make it annonymous

Or... Quit, sue / lawsuit and make some extra money. Takes a while, but money don't grow on trees.

Good luck :)

Definitely keep it anonymous, unless you wanna deal with 'personal drama' following the matter.

But, yeah, report um.

Well, most of the time I enjoy personal drama, but thats just me.

Moral is, 'Captain Guest', you should report, then choose yourself whether to give your name or be annonymous.

keep it anonymous but there's definitely something shady going on here... hell i'm sure several of the other employees have considered doing the same thing so there's no real way of him/her knowing who reported him

also... i wouldn't recommend the lawsuit, court costs, possible reputation as a whistle-blower, etc. but that's just me

I agree with fl00d3d on this one. If he's a drug addict like you say, do you think he'll be concerned about "damaging" you a bit for reporting him?
