Auto rifle is actually more powerful than the Chain Gun.

Really but the rockets are stronger and have burn damage... We were talking about rockets then not the chain gun correct?

AutoRifle is better than chaingun against light vehicles, but against infantry the chaingun should be better (based on damage stats and such).

Dan, I thought the same thing ever since I first starting playing online since, like, 2003 or 2004. But according to the damage counters, it REALLY isn't.

I wonder if the difference is due to the lower accuracy of the chaingun vs. the autorifle... if you hit the exact same number of shots in the same places the chaingun WOULD do more damage than the autorifle, but the accuracy could skew the balance in favour of the autorifle at distance

Well, Lebo posted a list of damage counters (I believe from Blackintel), and a body shot of a GDI Auto Rifle (which has a different damage rate to the Nod Auto Rifle!) does 7 points of damage. A Chain Gun does 5 points of damage.
I doubt that takes accuracy into account - because if you hit 10 bullets of each, you'd still get the same ratio of damage.

The MutantSkin skin type is resistant to rifle damage =/
